Podcast to Post Soon - In the Meantime...

As the current podcast is being edited into TWO versions (the short story, and the long story), we'll take a moment to remind you that the next tasting panel will take place at the East Village Tavern at 6:30pm on Monday Dec. 20, 2010, as we'll  continue to sample from the vast offerings of holiday/winter beers that have overrun the current beer landscape! One special beer that we have for the coming tasting is Norway's Nønge Ø Winter Ale, for which there are no words that aptly do a description justice. "Mmmmmmmyummmmm" is as close as it comes. If you want to try a rare draft of this winter treat, it is one of the numerous outstanding winter/holiday/Christmas beers currently available on tap at Rattle N Hum, 14 E. 33rd St. by Madison. Get it while it lasts!

Next Beer Panel - Monday Dec. 13! 8PM

Our next beer panel will feature some very curious winter/holiday beers, including Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome. We'll meet at the back table of the East Village Tavern, Monday Dec. 13, 2010, at EIGHT PM (rather than the regular 6:30pm). We'll sample 4 or so beers that we'll bring, and at least one from the impressive taps at EVT.
All are welcome to join us, as we record our podcast. An RSVP isn't necessary, but it would be appreciated (to bobw -at- wfmu -dot- org).

Some of the other beers we may be sampling:
Brooklyn Winter Ale (Brooklyn, NY) - both bottle and tap
Sierra Nevada Celebration Fresh Hop Ale - (Chico, CA)
Mahr's Bräu Christmas Bock (Bamberg, Germany)
Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome (Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, England)
Ridgeway's Santa's Butt Winter Porter (South Stoke, England).

Mondays! Not Tuesdays!

Before we even get our first beer tasting panel under our belt, we have to change the day of the weekly panel from Tuesdays to MONDAYS. There are a few reasons for the change - none of which are noteworthy. But we'll be able to begin a little later on Mondays, at 6:30pm, rather than at six. We'll meet up at the back table of the East Village Tavern on Monday Dec. 6, 2010 at 6:30pm to try some holiday/winter seasonal beers! See you then!

Welcome Beer Hear!

This is the first Beer Hear! post to announce the first Beer Hear! session, which will be on Tues. Dec. 7, 2010 at 6pm at the East Village Tavern, on the corner of Ave. C and East 10th St.! We'll be sampling some of our favorite winter holiday beers, which means Christmas beers for the most part. But who knows - maybe we'll also have a little Festival of Light (Beer), too! We'll post more info prior to the date. In the meantime, what are some of your favorite holiday beers?

Just a word about the hosts of the program - I've been homebrewing with B.R. for about 15 years. We've been members of the Brooklyn homebrew club The Malted Barley Appreciation Society that long, as well, and are both past presidents of the club. We're both extensively trained beer judges, we've taken many "beer vacations" through Germany, Belgium and elsewhere, and we're just overall fanatical about the combination of malt, hops, water and yeast! I'll let B.R. tell you about herself in her own post.

Cheers!
